A Message from
Our charity partner
At Protega Global we are commited to supporting our local charities.
A big thank you from Enham Trust to Protega Global for your help to transform a disused plot in our village of Enham Alamein into an accessible Community Orchard and Gardens. In a village where over a quarter of residents live with a disability, this inclusive green space meets a vital local need, delivering meaningful impact for the environment, disabled people, and the community in which they live and work.
disability and supported employment
The Community Orchard and Gardens have been designed with accessibility at their core. Featuring a wheelchair accessible picnic bench, sensory garden, raised growing beds and accessible fruit trees, enabling crops to be grown and harvested by people with limited or restricted mobility.
Your funding has contributed towards the employment of disabled people within Enham Trust’s Gardening and Estates Team, who have played a key role in the creation and on-going maintenance of the site alongside colleagues and 700 hours of volunteer time.
These roles have provided meaningful employment and tailored workplace support for disabled people who may otherwise face barriers in securing suitable job opportunities that match their strengths and accessibility needs. Funding from Protega Global has also contributed towards the running of Enham Trust’s Gardening Group (‘Ground to Plate’ initiative) where disabled participants have lovingly grown plants and seedlings for the garden and vegetable patch, as well as helping with the ongoing weeding and watering of the Orchard and Gardens.
Enviroment and community
The Community Orchard and Gardens incorporates 20 fruit trees, wildflower-rich areas and nature habitats which have boosted local biodiversity and attracted pollinators to improve local environmental health. The use of sustainable materials, for example recycled wood, ensures that the site remains environmentally friendly and long‑lasting.
This beautiful and relaxing space has also been used to run wellbeing activities and seasonal events, bringing together people we support and the wider village community, to enjoy nature together in an inclusive environment. Thank you so much for being part of this journey, and for your ongoing support enabling disabled people to live, work and enjoy life.
